When paroosing a site recently, I came across the following statement, (out of kingdom, but discussing the Society in general):
What should a consort avoid doing? - Overt cheerleading for their fighter during a tournament (cheering, clapping, hooting).

I would like an explaination of this outlook, please, since I *am* a demure and subtle flower of the North.

I think all the Lockleven boys could use a vuvuzala section, but that's just me.

omg fell over from the funny...

you are allowed in period, to flutter your hands, get a case of the vapors or swoon...so long as you do not utter anything above the noise of a whispering wind or perspire.

Given the weather conditions of the last Crown? I doubt any of the onlookers were perspiring.

I suppose yelling "Yah! Kick his ass!" is less than demure. Or sportsmanlike.

I can see that.

Perhaps they mean during the actual bout, as opposed to after the contest is settled?

Date: 2010-09-02 09:27 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] kragore.livejournal.com
This was my second thought - I mean, no one wants to be distracting...

Date: 2010-09-02 10:27 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] baronernst.livejournal.com
That's an incredibly selfish attitude.

Date: 2010-09-03 01:40 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] kragore.livejournal.com
I wouldn't want it to be said that "so and so lost because he was distracted by X" (where X had nothing to do with the fighter he was facing, ie, vuvuzelas, boobies, etc.,) and so I'm hoping the above statement was written with that theory in mind...

*sigh*
Opinions about consorting... I haz them.
I will deliver them to you post Step Down but Pre-Crown tournament.

Question on that statement... was the writer perhaps from Ansteora or from Meridies?
Because cheerleader culture is not period, but pervades those kingdoms... and probably more kingdoms I have not thought about.

Oh, Oh I'd imagine you do.

Atenvelt, actually.

I suppose it's to be kind to thems that gots no consorts to cheer loudly for them and make a ruckus.

By the very rules of this particular tourney, you have to have a consort.

I'm just rather wryly amused by the notion - I can see Adyan's point - you don't want to be an undue distraction during a bout, but afterwards? Hrmph.

I am a notorious asshole for clapping and cheering when someone I like has won a bout. While I can see the point of the whole "Oh, you must be demure and modest" thing, I tend to think it's disingenuous.

(Also, hello. I am not sure I know you but Ernie says he loves you so I got all up in your LJ.)

Oh good, I'm glad I'm not the only one!

(Hi there! I was the default Ernst assistant for Pennsic. Now it appears I'm adopted. Pleased to see you here!)
