I looked up how much it would be to go ligit.
To like, actually *own* my software.

So I call Adobe to ask about the group licenses. Totally unhelpful. They refer me to a reseller.

I call the reseller. I say that I'm part of a freelance co-op, (fancy name for friends with design skillz,) that is looking to by software, and we were interested in a batch license. We'd only need about 4 copies, though. There aren't that many of us.

So the nice lady runs the numbers on the Adobe Creative Suite Primium for us.

Instead of $1,197.99 a piece, it will be $1,169.99 a piece.
A $28 dollar difference.

*blink*

Are you sure, Ma'am?
Yep.
$28 dollars.
Not even enough to cover the cost of shipping.

Well, so much for dreams of going legit.

Artful Dodging

We've used a few dodges to get software for less. The Quark I got as payment for doing layout/typography for a client (and only becasue I came recommended and the client had deep pockets). The Adobe we got once via student discount. We also got lucky once, and were able to snag an older version of the Adobe Publishing bundle, from a retailer selling backstock at a discount. Then we upgraded when we could afford to. Sadly, the real discounts only kick in when you start talking *hundreds* of units. :P

Mmm.. Adobe's gotten crafty at the whole "activation" thing. How irritating that they want to protect their own software. Hrrph.

I'm going to see if I can snag a copy with my brother's student discount...
