Poem a day for April
Apr. 1st, 2011 10:50 amToes
Expectant, you dance around the kitchen
I am your whole world in that moment
Your claws beat out a frantic rat-a-tat
Kibble, woman. Kibble. Now!
The insistent noise frays at the edge of my sanity
more than once I snap at you to go. lay. down.
The blessed moment of silence is too short, and you're hovering again
Kibble? Please?
At night when it's still and you're looking for a kind hand
The snow drifts and pools outside our snug walls
I study the tufts of fur that grow from between your toes
Funny little feathers on my funny little feather-brained friend.
