Went to list practice again last night, and experienced more small world syndrome.
Got into what gear I have, and a ton of loaner gear, and had another lesson from The Dude Apparently in Charge (henceforth DAIC, he's the one with the key.) Showed him the slightly improved flat shot (over last week, anyway), and he attempted to teach me how to throw a wrap. I almost had it, but I'm missing part of the mechanic, I think.
I was better about moving around, rather than just moving forward and back. I think I'm better off when I'm moving than when I'm standing
A blazing realization I had toward the end of the night came in multiple pieces.
I have a problem hitting someone if they haven't acknowledged me.
Apparently, I rely A LOT on eye contact to ascertain this.
Many people underestimate JUST HOW BAD my eyesight is.
Take a lightly frosted piece of glass, put it about 8" from the end of your nose, and try to look at the whole world through it.
Now realize that I can't See for Shit in the helmet, and I can't really Hear for Shit either.
I get hesitant if I'm not sure the other person doesn't know the hit is coming or not. But if they telegraph to me via body language (apparent enough that I can tell, mostly blind) that they see it coming, they've already blocked it. Thus making this rather... difficult.
But you say "Kragore, they are dressed out in anywhere from 30-75lbs of armor, they are expecting to get hit."
And my rational brain knows this, but my irrational brain has to work on getting over or around it. Something to think about.
Tonight - Yoga.
