Now, I really respect this guy. He's smart, funny and engaging.

Eventually it came out that he had voted for McCain. Ok, no harm there, it was his right to vote however he wanted to. But then he told me why, and I nearly hard to leave.

"I feel he's just too young, and well, you know Detroit?" He said. "They elected the first black mayor what, 15-20 years ago? And that guy took and turned Detroit into a ghetto that they are still trying to dig themselves out of. Drove all the white people out."

Those of you tapped into the hive mind of the collective likely heard my brain drop into reverse from 80 mph yesterday. That this guy, smart, educated, thinks that just because the guy is black he's going to turn the USA into a ghetto like Detroit, simply because that's what that other black guy did? That's like saying because the white guy in the Audi cut you all, all white guys in Audis will cut you off.
I'm not going to defend Detroit's previous mayors, but might Detroit's situation have had anything to do with the movement of auto jobs out of country?

His reasoning startled me deeply.
