Writing it down
Jan. 4th, 2011 12:17 pmLast night, I sat down with a hot mug of tea, a piece of paper, pencil, and the Jung's Plant and Seed catalog, and I began to plan what fruiting trees I wanted to get.
Never mind that I don't have the land to plant them on yet.
An Illinois Mulberry (15-20', self pollenating),
4 heritage semi-dwarf (12-16') apples, (with such delightful names as "Wolf River" and "Duchess of Oldenberg") who will all pollenate each other,
and 2 heritage pears (14-18") to cross pollenate.
I love pears.
I wandered my way through the rest of the catalog too, wondering, pondering, not quite planning, but not *not* planning either. Things like flowers need to be decided in situ. You need to purchase property with an eye toward what type of orchard it could support.
Well, it was fun to me, anyway. And looking at the flowers is always fun.
