Weekend was good - snuck out of work early, drove out to the Roses site avoiding much of the evil traffic, and had my camp space set up by 6. I had the help of two young men (aged about 8 and 10) of boundless energy. Putting up the Tent of Holding requires about 3 adults at one specific point, it's biggest flaw, and one not easily accomplished with two pint sized helpers, but we managed.
Busted a few ground loops pulling up the stakes. The web strapping wasn't the highest quality, and the past few years of use are taking it's toll on the beast.
Had a lovely weekend - worked the Wok all day Saturday and Sunday with a fabulous crew. Made big meat small. Made big veggies small. Watched Amal and Wyldehunt get their AoA's (one of which was a complete surprise to me too, so don't give me that dirty look. ;) )
Took off Saturday night and looked up a friend for drinks. A beer, some tasty, tasty scotch, and then I was off to give the dog a final walk and to bed.
The weather was *fabulous* (if hot), but we broke down in record time monday, and were on the road by 12:15. Stopped for lunch, cruised out to visit the folks. Tom Tom showed me a SuperNinja back road (single dirt track) that brought me to one of my favorite back roads (also single dirt track). Made getting from the NY line to folks go from 45 min to 25. Fantabulous. Dad was in a miserable mood (fucked if I know why) so I hung out with mom and studied the smock she's making for me. She's really put a lot of thought into a part of the dress I generally dont' think much about. I'm glad she's getting some enjoyment out of it.
Toodled back to my place, threw in a few loads of laundry and crashed.
Yesterday, I was mildly dissapointed the list practice was cancelled. I'd been working to try and get myself in to a more agressive mindset all day.
Was on my way home when the phone rang - Tegan calling to say they'd moved it inside. Ran by, grabbed Mr. Dog from camp GirlFriend, and trundled off to practice.
Was just Mathias, Tegan and I, but it was a good time. I was thoroughly sweaty and bruised by the end, and had started to learn more things in regards to how to swing a stick.
"Varju - what have we leaned?"
"That taking a cut to the tummy hurts like a sumbitch."
"Yes, that, and?"
"That rolling my ankle hurts like a sumbitch."
"And?"
"I should try not to do either again?"
"sigh"
Next time, I'm going to see about reversing hands - I have a suddenly bad habit of smashing an opponent in the head with the wrong end of the stick when in close - The blade winds up in my left hand, and come up and around and it just happens that rather than thrusting I'm clubbing with the butt end. I'm doing something backwards. Up side? I was getting enough power, and seeing the hole.
Downside? Smashy Hand _bad_. Not to be punching Tegan in the head. Even if he has it coming.
Tonight I'm debating yoga. I should go. It would be good for me. But I really really want a nap. But it would be good for me. But I'd love to go home and work on SuperNinja Project #85, vaccum my house (OMG shedding dog bunnies) and go to bed.
But I should go to yoga.
*sigh*
We shall see.
This weekend looks blissfully free - I have things I can do, but nothing I *have* to do. I don't think this has happened since... January?
