Went and picked up the Golden Prince of the Four-Leggers on friday night. Hung around and socialized a bit with his subjects. Helped them pack the car for their weekend, and His Fluffiness and I went home to terrorize the cats and just hang out. There was relaxing done, and early to bed-ness happened.
Saturday morning I woke up to a wet nose on my nose, letting me know it was time for the morning constitutional. Got up, let His Fluffiness out, and stood in the back door, soaking up the 5:50 am pre-dawn glow.
I then went back to bed.
Got up about 8, fed His Fluffiness his breakfast, and packed him up to enjoy a day with the people. Drove down, helped pack up Illustrator and Meta, and hauled their stuff down to the new abode.
Many hands made for light work, and we were done with the bulk of the moving by 2. His Fluffiness had an entire fenced back yard to play in, and many people would rotate in to socialize with him. Later in the day I caught Meta's father through a window, outside alone, leaning over the fence, having a smoke, staring out over the back yard contemplating the world while stroking Hi Fluffiness's ears.
The afternoon brought the deviding of the island, and then dinner. His Fluffiness got to be the first to grace their house with dog hair. :)
We eventually got home, and I hung out with HorseChaser until picking up The Man from the train station after his day at the Soxs game.

Sunday involved raking, and waffles, and talk of revitalizing the beef aspect of the farm. I will be putting out more details in the bit, but we're going to try to attempt a go at the local natural beef market I think.

His Fluffiness got to hang out while we raked and reseeded the whole back yard, drained the frog pond (NASTY) (and in which we found a sodden, ancient old Kong at the bottom - a sign perhaps?).

I eventually got His Fluffiness home, and came back to BBQ - Ribs!!

My crocuses and tuplips are up, my Daffys are blooming - the Hostas are peaking up their little green shoots, (any one want any? The Man can't stand "filler plants" and they should be devided anyway.) The rose is putting out leaves and I'm going to talk to the Elder Crone about Koi (yay fishes!)

Now we just need a lawn mower. :)

Once upon a time there were farms scattered around the Berkshires.
These provided the surrounding families with most, if not all, of their day-to-day dietary needs. Eggs, milk, and produce and Beef.

My family has a farm. It has fallen into disarray, but my sister and I are intent on keeping it, (and improving it,) as a working farm, and not a condo development.

To this end, we are testing areas to see if there is any interest in local-gown beef.

Often in the past, my family would "Split a Steer" with another family. This entails paying for half of your beef up front this spring, and the other half next spring when you get your pretty butcher-wrapped pieces of happy, natural, no-hormones, grass raised/grain finished beef fit for freezer.

The easiest way to do this is to 1/2 the steers, but if there's enough interest, I'd entertain the ideas of 1/4 steers as well.
There is some leaway about the cuts you can specify, and in the end, everything can be turned into ground beef. :)

To make this truly useful, you really need to have a chest freezer to store your beef. (At least how my family has stored theirs in the past, you want to smoke it or brine it, that's your problem. :)

I can not give you hard prices yet, as it the market tends to fluctuate.

Please pass this around to as many people as you think would be interested.

There is NO commitment - I want to test interest.
